Billy Boyd & Peter Arnott

The cast of Jerusalem were treated to not one but two VIPs this afternoon.

Playwright Peter Arnott and SYT Patron Billy Boyd sat in on the show's increasingly impressive rehearsals. Billy even tried his hand at becoming part of the last scene of the first act, chanting "God's Will God's Will!" whilst brandishing a sword and shield. It very much looked like he had done a lot of this kind of work before!

It was an amazing opportunity for the cast not only to rehearse with Billy, but for playwright Peter Arnott to see just how well his new piece is coming together.

A considerable number of the scottish media attended the event so keep your eyes open for tomorrow's paper's and STV news bulletins.

Week Three already

Hi everyone,

Summer Festival is nearly half way through. The Glasgow Foundation course came to a close with two performances at The New Athenaeum on Saturday which audiences loved. All course participants were sad that it had to end but a good time was had by all - hope to see you back next year!

The three week intermediate course began yesterday at The Old Sheriff Court and the cast of Court Of Miracles and Norwegian Wood will be inheriting quite a few members, so it's an exciting time for all involved.

The flooding backstage seems to have dried up pretty quickly ... rain, what rain?!

The show must go on - as if there was any question of it not doing!

It's one thing for the Scottish "summer" to last two weeks. It's another for it to be raining terrentially. But it is absolutely down right rude of it to flood our backstage area!

Scottish Youth Theatre is infamous for it's lack of despondancy and trial in the face of adversity. So this, ladies & gents, is simply a minor hurdle that will have to be overcome. And it will. Things are starting to dry out and get mopped up and it's on with the show. All organisations / individuals that have been called in to help out know that there's the pressing matter of the Summer Festival shows to consider so it's all systems go.

In the meantime, can someone please have a word with the Gods and tell them to give SYT a bit of a break?? Oh, and, some sunshine wouldn't go a miss either!

Sun / Rain ... can't keep up!

I started writing this post yesterday morning and the sun was splitting the sky. Things got a bit hectic so didn't manage to complete it & publish, sorry :(

The title was something along the lines "oh what a lovely day, sun, warmth, lovely!" ou get the idea.

And now it's Wednesday. What a difference a day makes. Does anyone else have damp feet?!

Not that the damp weather has put a dampner on the Summer Festival spirit, not possible.

Livvy Lochrie, photography student, came to The Old Sheriff Court to take some rehearsal shots yesterday. She was truly bowled over by wadrobe. "There's SO much vintage in here!" (wait until she sees the giant olive costume...now that's a costume).

Already Livvy's managed to get a plethora of images from Norwegian Wood, Court Of Miracales and ... the first ever shots of Jerusalem: The Song Of Deeds rehearsals. The cast were taking part in a fighting workshop with Carter Ferguson. Serious stuff. This promises to be an epic production. Also, check out Effie Scott playing the clarsach. There have been some beautiful sounds drifting through the office thanks to her talents.

So many images means that SYT should really get a flickr account. Keep your eyes peeled for this, hopefully be up and running by next week.

Week 2 is underway.

Hi everyone, hope you had a good weekend in spite of the July rain. From the sounds of things, Saturday night's talent contest was a resounding success, with many contestants managing to impress the suitably high brow judges - 'He Doesn't Need An Alias' Nathan, 'Jenny Holden' and 'Kellyanne Farqhuar' ;) Great coat Nathan and fantastic bling ladies!

Along with all SF'10 participants, The Old Sheriff Court needed a rest after week 1 so the building was closed and all was quiet.

We're now into week 2 of Jerusalem, Court Of Miracles and Norwegian Wood rehearsals. The Glasgow Foundation Course are in their final week and will be performing their efforts of the past fortnight in 2 shows at the New Atheneum at the RSAMD on Saturday at 3pm & 7pm. Sneaked a look at Court Of Miracles rehearsals at the end of last week in the Gold Room. The opening number is, as they say in true Glaswegian, "a bit of a belter". So things are already starting to come together. Keep it up guys! Below are some images of the cast in full singing swing.

Day Five. FFFriday!

Busy busy in the Old Sheriff Court today.

Met Rory Beaton (one of most regular facebookers, nice to meet the man himself) in the office. Rory's on the Tech course and was in using a computer to source props.
- If anyone knows anyone with a cyprus tree or two, fake ones, please get in touch!

It was also 'cake day' Rory informed me. "Friday's always cake day". I know where I'll be next Friday then - cake hunting in SYT.

Mairi (events) and Niamh (admin) went shopping for prizes for the talent contest tomorrow night. The stakes are high so for all of those getting involved, practice hard tonight ;)

The staff forum's tonight and there'll be lots of opportunity for participants to get up close and grill the staff about all things theatrical. Hope it goes well.

Funny moment of the day - two very brave boys on foundation course banged heads. But they were all tough about it, they were, after all, doing kung fu moves at the time.
